Some questions you may have:

Does Acupuncture hurt? I practice a very gentle style of acupuncture, so it should not hurt. Occasionally, a very slight pinch may be felt, but it disappears very quickly. People are often surprised by how painless it is and how relaxed they feel!

What are the needles like? These needles are extremely thin and hair-like. Hypodermic needles, used to take blood or insert substances into the body, are hollow and much bigger... many acupuncture needles can fit into the hollow tip of a hypodermic needle.  We use only one-time use disposable needles.

Does insurance cover acupuncture? More companies are starting to cover acupuncture as it has become a legitimate component of healthcare. You can check with your insurance provider for details. I will provide you with any receipts and documents needed for insurance reimbursement.

What is a treatment session like? You should wear loose fitting clothing and be prepared to take off shoes and socks. The very first session will be a review of your health history as well as an acupuncture treatment. Follow-up treatments will be a more brief discussion of any changes in your health symptoms. Most treatments will start with the patient lying on the treatment table face-up. Fine acupuncture needles will be inserted into certain parts of the body and left for a period of time. There may be a few rounds of this and depending on symptoms, the patient may also lie face-down for a period of time.

How many treatments will I need? It depends on the person and on how chronic the health issue is. Consecutive weekly treatments for a few weeks have a much stronger effect than one treatment, on its own, or many weeks between treatments. When the symptoms improve, the treatments can be decreased and then used on a maintenance basis.

How much does it cost? $50 per treatment.  Checks and cash accepted. Treatments last 45 minutes to 1 hour (the first treatment can take a little over 1 hour).
